Cork is an economic and green material made of natural cork aggregate, bound together via an ecological binder. It is harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, which naturally regenerate. The trees are not harmed in this process, and live up to 200 years, and they can be harvested up to 21 times throughout their lifespan. This makes it a sustainable, infinite resource. Add to this that it can biodegrade and be recycled into other products, and you have a material that should rightfully be the standard.

Yes, cork underlay can be used beneath ceramic tiles, usually for sound quality and thermal insulation. Cork is a natural insulator, trapping air within its porous structure and helping to reduce heat transfer. Thermal insulation is beneficial beneath ceramic tiles because the material is icy to the touch, which is very noticeable when stepping over it.
Yes, you can use cork flooring on concrete subfloors by utilising cork underlays. This combination creates a separation between the cold, porous concrete and the cork flooring by adding a thermal and acoustic barrier between them. Concrete is cold, and noisy to walk over, so this eco-friendly underlayment option is a perfect fit. Furthermore, concrete is known to retain water, which is pushed out of its pores when pressure from above (via the flooring weight and footsteps) is applied. Cork will resist this, providing an excellent underlay.
