All QA grippers are made from high-quality 5-ply plywood with zinc-plated nails and galvanised pins, which gives exceptional carpet holding strength.
QA Deep Base Gripper is ideal for installations with thicker underlays (11mm / 12mm) which can cause a dip in the carpet when used with a standard gripper.
Our extra deep pre-nailed carpet grippers are 9mm high instead of 6mm, so it will help to reduce any height difference.
Available in a medium pin – Nails and pins are 4mm longer to allow for the extra thickness of the wood.
Carpet gripper rods are tools placed beneath a carpet or underlay, designed to stick into and “grip” them to prevent carpet movement as people walk over it. A deep base variant makes the profile deeper and the pins larger, allowing it to work with thicker carpets and underlays. The mechanism doing the sticking is angled pins, meaning it bites into the carpet backing at an angle to stretch it over the grippers. It also has the added benefit of not risking protrusions that may be felt walking over it.
Ensure you’re aware of the thickness of your carpet or underlay, as you will need carpet grippers with an appropriate length to ensure they are suitable and compatible.
Failure to choose the correct carpet gripper length could lead to dips or carpet movement. The thickness of the carpet, and underlay if applicable, will be the main guiding metric by which you’ll choose the length of your pins. If you have an underlay added beneath your new flooring, ensure you combine both thicknesses for the best result:
The benefit of having pre-nailed carpet grippers is convenience. Carpet grippers that come without being nailed beforehand will demand a longer installation due to the need to apply the nails yourself. Furthermore, our professional-quality carpet grippers come with evenly spaced nails, improving the stability and security of your flooring.
Technically, yes, carpet grippers can be reused with a new carpet. However, we do not recommend it. This is because, over time, the pins of the carpet gripper rods will become bent or lose their sharpness. Also, removing the old carpet may cause the carpet grippers damage, especially if they were nailed or glued to the subfloor.
It’s a much better idea to replace your carpet grippers when a change has been made to your carpet or underlay and the grippers have had to be pulled back. QA can help you there.
